About Me

In 1741 Francis Price, then Clerk of the Works at Salisbury Cathedral, wrote a book which he described as:

“A series of particular and useful observations, made with great diligence and care, upon that admirable structure, the Cathedral-Church of Salisbury.  Calculated for the use and amusement of Gentlemen, and other curious Persons, as well as for the assistance of such artists as may be employed in a building of the like kind.”

Although I am no Gentleman, I am indeed curious, and in 2024 I started volunteering as a tower guide at Salisbury’s Cathedral Church.  This blog is inspired by some questions I have been asked, and I hope it may be useful or amusing.

Investigating some of these topics has taken me down all sorts of interesting and massively time consuming rabbit holes.  So although I will often give web site links, I suggest you click on them ONLY when you have a lot of time to spare.

Finally, and with apologies, in order to keep the number of spam comments down, you have to be logged in to leave a comment.  I hope this might in time build a Community of the Curious and I do encourage you to join up and join in.

PS This blog is not in any way associated with or approved by Salisbury Cathedral itself.
